Thomas Percival Elder - Correspondence 1917
Letter of May 6th, 1917 from Thomas Percival Elder to his sister in law Flossie Winnifred Elder of Ottawa Ontario. The letter is written on Y.M.C.A. letterhead.
Transcription:
Dear Floss,
Sunday afternoon in the Y.M.C.A. is the proper place to write you no doubt as here I shall be able to write a respectable letter. I am certainly the lucky kid and appreciate it. My course does not start for six weeks and being some parade [?] I expect to enjoy myself. That rascal Lloyd who ate my cake and penned that letter to you is here across the table from me. I just told him whom I was writing to and he said it was about time I had another birthday. I hope and expect the bally war will be over before that however.
Yesterday I met Ted Logie. He is quite the little soldier. I have told him to do as I say not as I do and showed him the straight and narrow path of a soldier.
It is fine here now and soon I shall have my camera out after I next go to London. It was fine in Scotland and I had a great time. That Maconochi Medal of mine tickles the females alright. I was in my glory but don't give me away.
You will hear that I am going in for a suicide club but that is an improvement as I was in a super-suicide one and didn't get scratched. You would not like to hear of our casualties during the last four months on Vimy however. I am not going back till I have to. France is no bon.
Yours
Percy
