Thomas Percival Elder - Correspondence 1917
Letter of June 9th, 1917 from Thomas Percival Elder to his brother Albert "Bert" James Elder of Ottawa Ontario.
Transcription:
Central Station Hotel
Glasgow
Dear Bert
Here I am again in Glasgow on leave and no doubt there will be questions as to all my doings by your beloved wife. I deny the allegations. There are two fellow conspirators with me and we have arranged to have a fair time without
attracting the notice of the police and yesterday my 27th birthday was celebrated with due pomp and ceremony.
We left Benhill Saturday and after spending the afternoon in London arrived here Sunday morning. Monday we went to Aberdeen but as we did not like it left by the next train. Since then we have been in around and about this city with
varying success. I have my two sets of stirups and find it rather embarrassing living up to the conduct of a gentleman and officer. I've [?] McGregor is dining with us to-night. To-morrow I get the final fitting for some extra clothes and leave at night
for Benhill via London. I am much better impressed with Scotland and the Scotch than with England and its people.
Yours,
T.P. Elder
