Thomas Percival Elder - Correspondence 1917
Letter of July 18th, 1917 from Thomas Percival Elder to his brother Albert "Bert" James Elder of Ottawa Ontario.
Transcription:
Benhill July 18/17
Dear Bert.
It is sometime since I wrote you although several letters have arrived. Everything is O.K. with me as usual. We are having rather a strenuous time but not as hard as we had been led to expect. When I tell you that I am up at 5:30 just half an hour before Reveille you will understand that I have changed somewhat. The truth of the matter is that we have to shine until the shine from our brasses etc. is something wonderful to behold. We are on parade from 6:30 to 7, 8:45 to 12:30 and 1:45 to 5:30. It takes some time cleaning so you can see there is not much idle time.
This is a very pretty town the best I have been in yet and what is more the Canadians have a good name here and that is unusual very much so.
I am enclosing some films which you can pass along home. Whatever happens I don't want to have them lost as they will be good to have 'apres la guerre'.
Having several letters to write I must make them short.
Regards to 'Bridget' & yourself.
Yours
Percy.
