It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Arthur A. Knight, GCSJ, MMSJ

Born in Shanghai, China in 1927, Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Art Knight began his many years of exemplary service with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada in 1940, when he joined the 72nd Seaforth Cadet Corps. In 1945 he began Officer Cadet training at UBC and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1950.

Years later, in 1983, Knight was appointed as Honorary Major to the 72nd Seaforth Cadets, a position that was created to acknowledge his outstanding role with the Seaforth cadets; in 1990 he was appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada. Throughout this time, with his wife Marjorie

(1927-2022) by his side, Art applied his considerable business, entrepreneurial and philanthropic skills in support of Cadets and the Regiment. In addition to serving seven years as both a Director and Officer of the Army Cadet League of B.C., Art Knight’s most notable legacy with the Seaforths is as founding member and Chair of the Patrons Corps, a distinguished circle of civilians, all of whom shared his deep appreciation of Canada’s military heritage and a desire to support the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada.

Funds raised by the Patrons Corp continue to this day to provide much needed support to all seven Cadet Corps and the Regiment.

HLCol Arthur Knight is survived by his four children, Stephen, John, Russell and Trish and 10 grandchildren. His Memorial Service and Eight Bells Committal at sea will be held 1pm-4pm, July 9th at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. Rev James Wagner will be officiating. If members of the Regiment would like to attend, please contact the family attkc121962@gmail.com by July 4th 2025.
